@evanhill My assumption, but agree it’s a controversial call.
More than likely planning to run through the ball and onto goal, but starts to turn when the defender winds up to clear it (ie Knows it’s likely he’s going to get kicked).
In the end, the defender clearly kicks him.
Foul.
@P_rEsTo_N@bigzoymark@BarstoolBigCat (2/2) And within 24-36 hours, we changed the narrative… and became the villain and poster child of blatant corruption.
I think it also disrupted the US and fired up the Belgians. It’s obvious it had the opposite effect than it intended.
@P_rEsTo_N@bigzoymark@BarstoolBigCat (1/2) The Balogun reversal did more harm than good, in all sorts of ways.
Many in the world were rooting for the US. We were changing perception about our knowledge and love of the game, impressed foreigners with our stadiums, infrastructure, food, culture, and people…

@BBCMOTD There are A LOT of football supporters in the US who hate that Balogun was reinstated. *Most* of the people arguing FOR the reversal were casual supporters who watch soccer every four years… and have no real appreciation for the game.
@USMNT_2026 Just stop. Apples and oranges. It’s quite normal to wipe the slate before a tournament, including the World Cup. What’s NOT normal is overturning an unappealable ruling mid-tournament. The rest of the footballing world finds this corruption and its defense inexcusable.
@JordanSchachtel I am a USMNT supporter, but it was a red. Still, regardless, the VAR *call* was red. To change it 4 days later, reeks of corruption. That’s why Belgium and the rest of the footballing world is p*ssed.
@mjthomas2@BarstoolBigCat Fair. It’sdebatable. I’d say that call gets called red MOST of the time. To me, clear.
Regardless, the call was red. To remove the suspension is unprecedented and makes FIFA look even more corrupt than normal. NOT the same as starting the WC with a clean slate, which is normal).
