I'm still reeling from the news about Bio Booster Armour Guyver creator Yoshiki Takaya's health.
What I can't get over is that we learned the news from a Blu ray interview and not from any kind of official source from the Manga magazine Guyver is serialised in or its publishers.
Also the length of time before the announcement makes me wonder if he'd hoped there was a chance he might recover some of his ability to draw so he could still continue, even if it was at a slower pace.
I'm still so heartbroken about it.
I have such fond memories of buying the Guyver OVAs on VHS as they were released by Manga Video every month here in the UK from 1994-1995.
My mam used to work at a pub that was just a short walk away from a music and video store and she'd pick up the tapes for me on release day because I was at School at the time. I used to read all the Anime magazines so I knew the release dates. I had a glass collecting job back then and all of my money went on Anime tapes.
Then I discovered the Manga when it was still being published by VIZ. Our closest Forbidden Planet used to get all the issues in and I'd pick them all up and re-read them endlessly. It was such a thrill at the time being able to see what happened beyond where the Anime ended as it was my first real experience of that. I'd read other Manga that had Anime adaptations before but coincidentally they were ones that were quite different from the source material so this was really exciting to me.
I'd always dreamed of the day I could finally see how Sho's story ended and while that day is unlikely to come now it makes me appreciate that we got what we got even if we won't get an ending.
Thank you Takaya-San for making such a memorable work that will continue to inspire others and I really hope I will be able to purchase your Manga in English again one day. It's been too long since I held a new volume of Guyver in my hands.
