There is a baby formula company that came to Africa and gave breastfeeding mothers "free" powder milk for their children. The mothers were told how good the milk was for their children,they all fed their kids the milk . When their bodies realized the children were not suckling,they shut down milk production.The mothers went back for more free milk now with no option and found out quick how expensive the milk was . Thousands of children died from malnutrition and more from contamination as they mixed the formulas with unclean water , hundreds of thousands of children died . That compony is currently worth 248 billion dollars and it's called Nestle.
Studies have shown that short form video formats provided by social media are causing reduction in attention spans of young children . Most teachers are reporting that kids are unable to sit still for a 20 min lesson. Meanwhile the platforms are making billions of dollars .
What does nestle and social media have in common ? They all started off as free untill the bill arrived.

But put yourself somewhere it can't predict anything and the system flips. Every sign, every smell, every crosswalk registers as new information. Dopamine tags all of it as worth keeping. This is why one week abroad feels longer in memory than a month at home. Your brain literally kept more of it.

The second thing happening is quieter. At home, some part of you is always tracking how you're being perceived. Your boss, your friends, the people who knew you at 22. In a city where nobody knows your name, that entire system goes offline.

And when it goes offline, the bandwidth doesn't disappear. It gets redirected inward.

That's the "realizing how far you've come" part. Your brain is finally recording again, the self-monitoring is off, and you're far enough away from your life to see the whole shape of it at once.

You spend years too close to your own life to see it. Then one night you're crossing a street on the other side of the world, and you finally have enough distance to look.

When you constantly step in with the next activity, kids never learn how to drop into deep, self directed play.

The discomfort of boredom is actually GOOD for them. When a child is never allowed to feel bored, they learn that low stimulation is an emergency that requires an immediate distraction.

It might take 10 or 20 minutes of complaining, but eventually their imagination takes over. What they come up with on their own is almost always more creative than anything you could have handed them anyways.

Rescuing your child from boredom today just turns them into an adult who checks their phone every 45 seconds because they cannot tolerate 5 minutes of quiet focus.
