Do you know it took 9 years and 2 days before the body of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was buried?

Following his death on May 9, 1987, his family and associates decided to preserve his well-embalmed body in a transparent glass casket.

The casket was kept inside a mausoleum at his compound in Ikenne, Ogun State, where visitors could view it.

His body was officially interred in the ground exactly nine years later, on May 11, 1996.

By historical coincidence, the prominent Nigerian statesman Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe passed away on the very same day he was interred!

What a history!!!!
