@EssmannJeff Would you say the “axis of evil” is a community of interest? If only our 😈 community had been kept whole in a congressional district…😂 Hope you’re well and we can debate again someday, Commissioner!
Montana's independent redistricting Commission has a proud history of upholding our obligation to comply with the MT Constitution and the Voting Rights Act in protecting minority voting rights. Today, the Supreme Court reaffirmed that all states must meet this obligation. #mtpol

50 years ago, the framers of our Montana Constitution had the foresight to create the framework for one of the nation’s first independent redistricting Commissions. Upon filing the plan to become law, they also had the foresight to ensure we dissolve. Hallelujah!

We redistrict to achieve equal representation. Districts aren’t just shapes on a map. Districts represent people. All Montanans have a right to be represented in our state government, and that’s why fair maps matter. Because representation matters. 🧵#mtnews#mtpol#mtleg
All Montanans should have a voice in our government. A majority party who can’t handle hearing dissent is a party who shouldn’t be governing. All Montanans deserve to be heard. Representation matters.
I know it's early, but this may be my favorite poll question of the year. A followup: What percentage of male Americans believe they could successfully perform open-heart surgery aided by a YouTube tutorial?
“It (a Representative Assembly) should be in miniature, an exact portrait of the people at large. It should think, feel, reason, and act like them...it should be an equal representation...” - John Adams, 1776
I have yet to see a cogent argument for why the results for a statewide election should mean a similar partisan balance for the state legislature. #mtpol
@DavidRHerbst But if your point is that Republicans won their supermajorities in 2022 with less than 60% of the statewide vote, and the political makeup of the legislature doesn't actually reflect our state, you're correct.
@DavidRHerbst The Commission's unanimously agreed upon competitiveness metric predicted/matched the outcome of 126 out of 127 legislative seats that were up for election in 2022. So I wouldn't say unrelated.
I expect that they won’t. Montanans know that they deserve a reflective and responsive government. Fair maps are a necessary piece of that. All Montanans deserve a fair map.
MDAC met for the final time this year to hear public comment, amend the tentative Commission map, and move to submit TCP 3 to the Legislature for recommendations as we fulfill the Constitutional duties of Montana’s independent redistricting Commission. #mtnews#mtpol#mtleg
Montanans should never accept a map that unduly favors one party. Nor should they accept a redistricting process designed to silence the voices of hundreds of thousands of Montanans while letting politicians draw their own districts for personal and partisan gain.
