The "everyone is a designer" mentality can backfire. When companies evangelize UX and design thinking without directly researching or testing with users, design outcomes suffer. @spydergrrl calls it UX Theatre.

People do not know how to right click. They don't use carousels. They don't always know about the back button. They absolutely do not understand what a URL is. Menus confuse them. Icons do not mean things to them. The web is very confusing to most people; don't make it harder.
