@kennethwoods Afraid you called it, Kenneth. I ask myself who keeps opera, orchestral music and theatre alive as living forms every time another company draws down its endowment. Somebody has to keep commissioning. I'm glad some are still building.
Many friends thought I was being unduly pessimistic in this post from the end of 22. it gives me no pleasure to say that my pessimism was, if anything, underestimating the awfulness of what is to come.

There's a shocking article in the Spectator about "Edtech" in schools: screen use in class, homework on apps, physical books phased out. University students are routinely expected to read complex articles and books in digital formats. Nobody can read properly on a screen. /
This excellent piece in the @FT is well worth reading, not least because of the ever-astute reflections on the value of arts and culture from @armslengthal: https://t.co/uEpkFm70Xe
We're deeply concerned that the Shadow Culture Secretary appears to be arguing for an end to almost all public investment in arts & culture.
A cut of this magnitude would be unprecedented and catastrophic. We've requested a full explanation of the numbers and a serious rethink.
John Roberts: lifetime job. No term limit. No election. The man who decided a president can’t be prosecuted for official acts.
Here’s the one thing he doesn’t control: Congress can impeach him.
Most people have no idea. Spread it.
Received wisdom is that octave fuzz only works on the 12th fret for screaming stuff. Not true! It creates interesting and cool colors all over the guitar if you go looking!

The English Symphony Orchestra performed a programme of Sibelius, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Smetana and Smyth. Zeb Soanes (classic fm) explained each piece as we progressed through the evening. Kenneth Woods, conductor took charge with Joely Koos playing her cello as soloist.

10 Hills I’ll die on:
- Big corporations shouldn’t be able to buy elections
- A good education shouldn’t just be for rich kids
- Getting sick shouldn’t mean going broke
- We should invest in child care like we do our roads and libraries
- Billionaires should pay their fair share so everyone else gets a fair shot
- Homes are for people, not corporations
- Abortion is health care
- Americans should not have to subsidize the cost of data centers
- No one should be able to use public office to make themselves richer
- We need to put put power back in the hands of working people
TODAY is now SOS day, and I'd be so grateful if you'd give it a spin on the old Stealify. Evil as they are, their numbers are what presenters, radio, festivals, etc all look at..... Yuck! But it is, what it is....
