To celebrate the @nyknicks' first NBA Finals home game since 1999, we brought back the K train for a limited run before tip-off of Game 3!
On the vintage R32 decked out in orange and blue, Knicks-themed surprises were handed out while riders were hyped up by Niko Knickerbocker and MTA Music performer Chanese Elifé.
GO NEW YORK, GO NEW YORK, GO!
The last time the Knicks won it all, New Yorkers rode home on R32 subway cars.
Those same cars carried fans through the city's celebration in 1973.
More than 50 years later, New York is dreaming again.
Ahead of Game 3, we're bringing back a piece of that spring for one special ride.
The K train.
The MTA commissioned a special K train to celebrate the Knicks playing Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. According to the MTA, the R-32 vintage train began at the World Trade Center Station and traveled north to the 168 St Station along the C and E lines.
The train and K line ran in 1973, the last time the New York Knicks won an NBA title, the MTA said.
We're throwing it back to celebrate the Knicks coming home! Meet us at the World Trade Center E station at 4:15 to take a ride on a vintage R32 train, which was running when the Knicks last won the Finals in 1973.
The train—outfitted with the K roll sign—will run local on the E from World Trade Center to 59 St-Columbus Circle, then run express to 168 St. There will be fun Knicks-themed surprises—join us for more, and let’s go Knicks!
