I don't usually tweet about what I watch but after finally waiting for years now, the "Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games" anime is finally out and I have no words to describe how fucking peak this first episode was. I'm genuinely in love and will be waiting. Time to grind sf

Gals can’t be kind to otaku?! ✅ 9/10

Kinda sad so many people wrote this off based on their preconceived notions of the genre. This show broke a lot of stereotypical gyaru x otaku tropes and ended up being one of the best watches of the season thanks to the depth and substance each lead was given.

The girls both had distinct personalities and their reasons for liking Seo made sense, there’s of course a degree of male wish fulfilment, but at least it’s explained relatively well and the bond they all share feels believable. As a guy who likes “girly” things, I saw a lot of myself in Seo and found his development to be very satisfying. I personally liked the ending a lot because the main focus of the show has always been about all 3 of them helping each other come out of their shells and embrace their true selves. We still gotta work on Amane accepting she’s an otaku, though, lol.

Big fan of the lack of fanservice. The girls aren’t just objects or waifubait. They both have their own moments to shine and have distinct relationships with Seo. Both are great and although it’s Team Kei forever, I have a great deal of respect for Ichiji. One of the few romcoms where I like everyone, lol.

I’ll miss this one.

AMAZING EPISODE!! Rudo and Zanka's "fight" was executed perfectly, shit had me dying 😭. The facial expressions and drawings in general were on point this episode, especially once Zanka comes in. Each episode just keeps getting better!
