Statewide referenda rejecting vouchers in two ruby red states in this past election show that, after two centuries, public education is still a bipartisan project. But Republican politicians sadly don’t care what their own voters want on this issue. https://t.co/osgrRWals5
I have a new job! Grateful for the opportunity, and thrilled to join the amazing Ed Lab team & to dive into early learning @seattletimes

Unlike the LA Times & Washington Post who are owned by billionaires, the Philadelphia Inquirer is owned by The Lenfest Institute for Journalism, a non-profit org. The Philadelphia Inquirer is the largest newspaper in America operated as a public-benefit corporation
Just because Donald Trump acts goofy doesn’t mean his presidency wouldn’t be dangerous. And you don’t have to take my word for it. Lately, some of the people who know Trump the best have been saying in no uncertain terms that he should not be president again.
This is the text of the Post columnists' statement, for those hitting the paywall:
The Washington Post’s decision not to make an endorsement in the presidential campaign is a terrible mistake. It represents an abandonment of the fundamental editorial convictions of the newspaper that we love. This is a moment for the institution to be making clear its commitment to democratic values, the rule of law and international alliances, and the threat that Donald Trump poses to them — the precise points The Post made in endorsing Trump’s opponents in 2016 and 2020. There is no contradiction between The Post’s important role as an independent newspaper and its practice of making political endorsements, both as a matter of guidance to readers and as a statement of core beliefs. That has never been more true than in the current campaign. An independent newspaper might someday choose to back away from making presidential endorsements. But this isn’t the right moment, when one candidate is advocating positions that directly threaten freedom of the press and the values of the Constitution.

People of America…I voted today! Happens it was for this great guy @Tim_Walz for VP and my friend @KamalaHarris for President. They believe that the American dream should be possible for everyone, including immigrants like me. Who’s with me?! Go to https://t.co/AuSr4of2u4 and make your plan to vote on or before Nov 5!
This past Tuesday, my family and I were proud to accept signed Resolution CR24-7 "Honoring the Late Mary Levy" in honor of my mother and her work and legacy, passed unanimously by the members of the @DCSBOE.

Let’s be clear: This is illegal and unconstitutional. The American people had voted. The courts had ruled. The Electoral College had met and voted. The Governor in every state had certified the results and sent a legal slate of electors to the Congress to be counted. The Vice President has no constitutional authority to tell states to submit alternative slates of electors because his candidate lost. That is tyranny. Our institutions held on Jan 6 because Mike Pence refused to violate his oath to the Constitution. Trump picked JD Vance because Vance will do whatever Trump wants, including violating the Constitution. They are both far too dangerous to serve. It’s our duty to stop them.
For education to be "all about the students," we need to:
Increase Recess, The Arts, & socialization
Focus on holistic growth, not just standardized tests
Give students a voice in their learning
Focus on strengths to build success
Take care of teachers, a key to students’ success
Born in DC on this date in 1895: Charles Hamilton Houston. Known as “The Man Who Killed Jim Crow,” Houston battled “separate but equal” & mentored young attorneys of color, including Thurgood Marshall. He was @naacp’s 1st counsel, taught at @HowardU & was dean of their law school
This is why DCPS schools, which will enroll any in-boundary student K and up any time of the year, need to be treated (and resourced) differently than charters. And DCPS schools receiving many students from Eagle may need additional staff to absorb the increase. @ChmnMendelson

Happy (?) 60th Birthday to the Capital Beltway
How did people around the country badmouth federal insiders before they could condemn them as “inside-the-Beltway”?
