I am shaking with pain and anger over the horrific shooting massacre at Chanukah by the Sea in Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, targeting a gathering of hundreds of Jewish men, women, and children lighting the Menorah, celebrating the first night of Chanukah.

The event is located near the playground, an attack on families and children.

I am praying for the victims, and my heart goes out to our Jewish family and community in Sydney.

Please wherever you are in the world, honor the victims and join a public Menorah lighting tonight to stand up to the monsters of hate and light a Menorah in your home and place it by the window.

The fact that he’s the nephew of Rabbi & Rebbetzin Holtzberg HY”D, who were murdered at Nariman Chabad House in the 2008 Mumbai Terrorist Attacks, further adds to the tragedy.

We often forget that Chabad Shaliah can be a dangerous post as they are placed in the forefront of every threat against Jews in Diaspora.

May Hashem avenge his blood, and may us all take a second to honor all those who are fighting for the Jewish People, either on the front lines in Lebanon and Gaza, or in houses of worship and outposts across the Diasporic World.

We just learned of the horrific, senseless and tragic murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan HY”D, a fellow Chabad Shliach who served with unwavering dedication in the United Arab Emirates. This news hits painfully close to home. As a Chabad Shliach myself, I feel the weight of this loss deeply. Rabbi Kogan was not just a colleague; he was part of a global family of emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe dedicated to spreading light in every corner of the world.

This week, we also mark the 16th anniversary of the devastating Mumbai massacre, where my dear colleagues, Rabbi Gabi and Rebbetzin Rivky Holtzberg HY”D, along with their guests, were murdered in their Chabad House. Many of us watched that tragedy unfold live on television, helpless and heartbroken. Today, as then, we are reminded of the dangers that come with our mission—and the sacred responsibility to persevere.

Rabbi Zvi Kogan exemplified the courage and selflessness of a true Chabad Shliach. In a place where being openly Jewish carries inherent risks, he stood as a symbol of a proud Jew. His life and legacy are a testament to the power of light to push back against even the deepest darkness.

Now, it is our collective duty to respond the only way we can: by amplifying his light. I encourage you to do an extra mitzvah in Rabbi Tzvi ben Alexander Kogan’s merit. Whether it’s giving charity, lighting Shabbat candles, putting on tefillin, or reaching out to someone in need, let us transform our grief into action.

May Rabbi Kogan’s family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. And may his memory inspire us all to bring about the ultimate redemption, when violence and hatred will be no more, and the world will be filled with Hashem’s peace.
