@Lionesses But wait…
Bronze’s attacking outdoes her defending
We pull one back and the crowd goes mad
Could we do it
And earn a draw
The excitement builds
As we go looking for goal number 4….
@amylimart@Tate After recently reading the excellent This Dark Country by Rebecca Birrell then a trip to see this exhibition is definitely on the cards.
It’ll be wonderful to see the originals of these great paintings 🙏
@Birmingham_81 Yes, you’re completely right. It doesn’t really matter but it was deadly serious in the late 70’s and early 80’s. You had to pick your tribe.
I liked The Jam and AC/DC though 😅
@Birmingham_81 Yes, it’s the crossover thing that messes with my head!
I don’t think that happend in Heavy Metal, Mod, New Romantic, Two Tone etc - they were more well defined
@Birmingham_81 But here’s my problem now I’ve looked at it.
Half the bands are Punk so are disqualified from the New Wave genre completely - it’s an oxymoron!
I feel as though I need to go on Newsnight with a panel of guests and get it sorted once and for all.
It’s becoming an obsession now
@Birmingham_81 I asked my mate Steve….
Oh wow. I had the Street Level cassette up to three weeks ago. I heard about Mars Tapes in Afflecks Palace and took them all in. I no longer have any music on a cassette format. I even looked at the track listing and cover.
@Birmingham_81 I had an LP in early 80’s called Street Level, it was a New Wave compilation. I’d love to still have it and know what was on it, I only remember a John Foxx track.
My mind is methodical and likes to put things in neat and tidy places - hence my need to understand the genres 😅
@Birmingham_81 Thanks for your reply, that makes things clearer.
But…
which category are Echo + TB in?
They came out just after punk, were probably influenced by it so Post Punk, but they were also part of a wave of more sophisticated bands that took music forwards, so New Wave?
Or both?
