“I sat under a tree and waited. The woods became dark. I was afraid. Then I saw two huge eyes. It was the Old Dark Frog. He was standing near me.”
“Frog,” asked Toad, “did this really happen?”
“Maybe it did, and maybe it didn’t,” said Frog.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco - the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them - but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema. I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire.
I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern.
Love,
David
@laurenkarcz I was so shocked! And heartbroken! And then I almost cried! Maybe it's good that I didn't discover it back then, because then I would've tried to write knockoff Mona Simpson (instead of the knockoff Miranda July I was writing).
I just read Mona Simpson's story "Lawns" for the first time, having somehow not read it in college when I would have made it my entire personality, and I guess the rest of my day is shot because it's all I'll be thinking about!
I started a project where I read at least one short story a day and keep a little list, sort of as a way to combat the amount of time I spend making fun of People magazine, and my life is already so much better.

Not exaggerating when I say that I think about this film, one of the weirdest movies I’ve ever seen, at least once a week. Mostly the ending, which I rewatch anytime I need a boost.
