Covid is an equalities matter. The pandemic is not over for the most vulnerable in society, or in our membership.

We know a new variant is taking hold. Now is the time to demand effective air filtration and the re-introduction of mandatory masks in public spaces, including on all public transport, especially as vaccines will be available to so few.

Too many of our frontline workers, and our members, have died avoidably due to this virus.

We need to encourage employers and the public to do what they can to minimise transmission, from masking up to self isolating when unwell.

As the Officer for GTR, the death of our member Belly Mujinga and others must be remembered.

Front line workers put their lives at risk to keep essential services running at the height of the pandemic.

Lessons must be learned. As TSSA GS I would seek to work with other leaders and the TUC to establish a Health Risk Working group, combining efforts so our workers never again have to work in a way that risks their health.

We must demand air filtration in work places now, and the provision of N95 masks for our members before infection numbers reach another peak. We should should also be advocating for the return of face coverings in public places. https://t.co/mxyNGrX5qn

Last Thursday hundreds of people assembled outside the Separtment for Transport and marched to Downing Street. Trade unionists, disability activists and members of the travelling public were keen to make their voices heard as we all stood in opposition to proposed ticket office closures.
