This weekend is a special invitation from the Church to grow closer to Jesus and Mary in a simple and real way through prayer, Mass, and love offered back to God.

📅 On July 3, we observe First Friday in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This devotion centers on going to Holy Mass, receiving Holy Communion with faith, spending time in Eucharistic Adoration if possible, and offering acts of love and reparation for sins. It is a way of saying yes to the love Jesus has for each person and choosing to return that love with trust and repentance. It comes from the long-standing Catholic First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was especially promoted through the private revelations of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century, where Jesus invited the Church to honor His Sacred Heart, receive Him in the Eucharist, and make reparation for sin, a practice that has been encouraged and approved within Catholic devotion for centuries.

📅 On July 4, we observe First Saturday in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

This devotion, given through the message of Fatima, includes going to Confession within the time the Church allows, receiving Holy Communion, praying five decades of the Rosary, and spending about 15 minutes quietly meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary. It is a simple way of asking Mary to help lead our hearts closer to Jesus.

First Friday and First Saturday are not about doing something complicated. They are about returning to God with sincerity, even in small acts of faith. In these devotions, the Church teaches us to repair our hearts, grow in grace, and trust more deeply in God’s mercy and Mary’s maternal care.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our hearts in Your mercy.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, lead us to your Son.
