From the beginning of this crisis, I have been clear and consistent: The United States is prepared no matter what happens.
We are ready for diplomacy to improve stability and security in Europe as a whole.
And we are ready to respond decisively if Russia attacks Ukraine.
As long as there is hope of a diplomatic resolution — that prevents the use of force and avoids the incredible human suffering that would follow — we will pursue it.
I spoke today with transatlantic leaders to discuss our concerns about Russia’s military build-up around Ukraine. We are united in our diplomatic efforts and deterrence measures and are ready to impose massive economic costs if Russia chooses further aggression.
