@KoinlyOfficial The per-exchange split is going to confuse a lot of people — especially anyone whose assets moved between exchanges mid-year. The 1099-DA from the selling exchange won't have the cost basis from the buying exchange.

@TheCryptoCPA The reconciliation problem is the phantom gains — when the 1099-DA shows proceeds with $0 basis because assets transferred wallets, the 8949 match looks wrong even when it's right. Documentation trail becomes the whole game.

@CryptoTaxFixer Good framing. The gap between "what the exchange reported" and "what actually happened" is bigger this year than any prior form. Especially for anyone who used DeFi, bridges, or moved assets between wallets — none of that context exists on the 1099-DA

@big_duca The portability problem is the core issue. Cost basis doesn't travel with the asset when it moves wallets, so the receiving exchange starts from zero. Guilty until you reconstruct the entire ownership chain yourself.
