@1Lordbuddy My only push back is on this statement here. It seems like you’re saying someone could have the new 31.33 heart, and yet still fall away at some point.
My guess is that’s not what you’re saying so was hoping you could clarify.
@DamonJGray Yeah it’s interesting in Romans 6-7 how much Paul seems to indicate the flesh is in his body, or his members. It’s like he knew his soul was new, but he still had a body under the affects of sin.
@DamonJGray Yeah great question. I really like Gal 5.16-17 for this. Most people assume we only have one center of desire but Paul seems to indicate here that there are two origins of desire within the believers. Am I wrong? Thoughts?
@al_hansel87 Oh yeah for sure! Matthew 15.18. So glad you pointed out that he’s talking to the Pharisees—seems like a lot of people miss that.
How are you coming to the conclusion that the spiritual promises of Jer 31.33 haven’t happened yet?
@DamonJGray It’s interesting that Jeremiah talks about two different hearts (or souls). One in 17.1,9 and one in 31.33. Makes you wonder why Christians are always so quick to identify with 17.9 instead of living like we’re 31.33, right?
@DamonJGray Yeah I think “heart” is a complicated word in Scripture because it doesn’t always mean the same thing depending on context.
Often it means everything going inside of a person (the holistic Jewish meaning), such as in the wisdom literature.
@happinessngo Oh not a big deal...I just saw you quoted Jeremiah 17.9, regarding the deceitful and sick heart...I was just curious who you thought that was talking about.
@BronyDestined Acts 15.8-9: And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith.
Interesting that Peter says our hearts have been cleansed right?
