Caught up with Jackson Francois today. The new Walden Grove head coach opened up about his upbringing around high-level athletics and how his days playing D-1 basketball are shaping his vision for the team.
From Tennessee to Arizona, Jackson Francois learned a lot from his mom, U of A Athletic Director Desireé Reed-Francois. Now, fresh off graduating, the former Arizona basketball walk-on is taking those tools to the high school court as Walden Grove’s new head coach.
After I wrote a story about Judith donating a kidney and advocating for organ donations, she invited me to have coffee with her and she gave me two books about parenting. She knew I had a daughter and she was a single parent herself who raised her boys Joseph and John very well despite having modest means. She donated her kidney but she gave her heart to many in this community and we are grateful.
He’s come a long way and his baseball journey is continuing. Angel Armenta Jr. was on the 2019 Sunnyside Little League team that came a game away from reaching Williamsport, Pa. He is concluding his Walden Grove career as a Kino Baseball League All-Star and is now headed to Williston (N.D.) State College to further his baseball and academic career. He wants to get into sports medicine.

Awesome to see: respected coach Virgil Henderson, former head coach at Cholla, Rincon/University and Catalina, is the new running backs coach at Marana. Henderson has served as an assistant before at Sunnyside, Salpointe, Ironwood Ridge and Mountain View.
