May 17, 1875 — the very first Kentucky Derby was run right here in the Ville at what would later become Churchill Downs.
Aristides won the inaugural race and started a tradition that’s still going strong 151 years later.
The Ville has been making history ever since.
@LindaCKBL The first Derby I attended all day, got there when the gate opened. I was 13 got up to 1/8 pole fence and didn't move. Loved all the Dust Commander's Run Dusty Run etc.
