In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
Pope Leo XIV pushed back on far-right groups using Christianity in Europe, saying it isn't an authentic expression of the faith
The values of the Gospel "are not about hatred and division, but they're about understanding and compassion," he said
When Roberto Clemente spoke in Spanish during a national TV interview after winning the 1971 World Series, it resonated with Latinos everywhere.
It is considered by many as an iconic moment, as important as any other in Clementeโs legendary career. #ClementeDay
Roberto Clementeโs baseball fame transcended the sport and gave him a platform to give back.
On the field he was one of the gameโs all-time greats, amassing 3,000 hits and winning two World Series championships over 18 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Off the field, Clemente lived with a philanthropic and charitable spirit. He saw his fame and fortune as a gift that could help provide for those less fortunate.
In December 1972, Clemente organized a relief effort in his native Puerto Rico to aid victims of a devastating earthquake in Nicaragua. Clemente was preparing to deliver a plane full of supplies in person on New Yearโs Eve.
The plane crashed into the ocean shortly after takeoff. All five people on board were killed, including the great Roberto Clemente, who was only 38 years old.
For both his great skill as a player and his character away from the field, Clemente remains a revered figure in Pittsburgh, in Puerto Rico, and throughout all of Latin America.
Every September 15, we celebrate #ClementeDay to honor Robertoโs legacy of charity and kindness.
