Hockey Night in Canada has been a rental space for some time, but it was still Hockey Night in Canada in terms of reach, and in tone. The death of HNIC was inevitable as soon as the big telecoms going into sports broadcasting: the money was too big. But it's a true national shame
That’s really a shame. No more NHL anytime on over-the-air free broadcast tv? No way to watch ever without pay-tv; buying sports channel subscription? Not even local Saturday night games on the local City channel? Wow. This is bad.
With this being the end of Hockey Night in Canada on CBC it only makes sense to post this. If you were a 90s kid like me, this is what you saw every Saturday night. The music, the intros, were as iconic as the games themselves. A very sad day.
We are honoured to be recognized by @IABC Canada with a Gold Quill Award.
The award recognizes communication work that delivers meaningful results such as our community relations efforts which support a community-led process to identify a site for a deep geological repository.
In Canada used nuclear fuel is currently safely managed in facilities licensed for interim storage. However, these used fuel bundles require safe isolation for the long term, which is why we’re working to build a deep geological repository.

My interview with President Trump on Friday afternoon was unfortunately complicated by weather issues. In spite of those challenges, we still had a substantial conversation on issues from the Iran war to the economy to the so-called “anti-weaponization” fund. Tune in for the full interview this morning on @MeetThePress.
The legacy of this @POTUS won't be the monuments he builds to himself but the destruction of faith in public institutions for his own power and profit.
He wants to rewrite or erase history because he knows it won't be kind to him.
I grew up wanting to do hockey PxP, and am really glad I found other ways to work in sports broadcasting. That’s because I would have felt totally inferior to the “best in the booth”, like Foster Hewitt award winner Chris Cuthbert. Congratulations, @CCpxpSN
Congratulations to Chris Cuthbert (@CCpxpSN) on winning the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award 👏🏆
The panel looks back on some of his greatest calls from the booth 🎙️
Hard for me to think of a more deserving person for this award.
An wonderful colleague and a tremendous role model for all future broadcasters.
Very proud to know this Hall of Famer!
Congratulations, Chris!
As a kid I listened to Foster Hewitt and dreamed one day I could be that voice calling games. To be named a Foster Hewitt Award winner is the honour of a lifetime. Overwhelmed to be joining so many of my heroes and esteemed colleagues. Grateful to all who’ve helped along the way.
