Very sad to hear of the death of Bill Kenwright today - UK theatre owes him so much! I sadly lost a good theatre friend over a week ago - and then I get a call today to say that one of my best buddies as a teenager - I played in a band with him - has also left us! A grim time!
So good to know we have a Home Secretary who gets her priorities right - not enough police, arrests, prison places, asylum seekers being processed - but she’s quite right to ask the police, to add to the list of things they haven’t got time for, to arrest people for chanting!
Coverage of the live voting for the U.S. Speaker of the House preceded on You Tube by an ad for ‘Fright Nights’ - very appropriate! - the GOP certainly scares me!
Today’s ‘Politics Live’ (BBC 2) was another example of the BBC’s complete failure to allow time for proper debate on complex issues. The ‘Today’ prog on Radio 4 is also guilty. Both progs open up massive issues and then quickly shut down any attempt at meaningful debate!
The US legal system is completely dysfunctional! Trump is evil - as De Niro suggests! The fact that he is still walking free is a joke. The GOP now nominates the treasonous Jordan for Speaker of the House. They are a danger to democracy and a laughing stock!
Sunak on TV: robotic, prepared statements regardless of the questions asked, more ‘spades in the ground’ crap! Doubt this attempt at reinvention will wash with the electorate. Is it time for the likes of Kuenssberg to end these interviews if the questions aren’t being answered?
Do the Tories really think that the electorate will be kept happy about HS2 by appearing on the media and all parroting that ‘spades are in the ground’? They hold us in contempt!
What a joyous start to the morning, watching Michael Morpurgo talking, like an eager schoolboy, about the importance of inspiring children with the stories of Shakespeare! He’s right about children being taken to the theatre for FREE, as in other countries!
Supermarket shopping in the UK: Sep 2023! In my branch of M and S! I bought 5 bananas from a grand total of 18 on the shelves! Of course, having no bananas must be Covid, Ukraine ….don’t mention the ‘B’ word!
This government now think to govern is to tell the public what they are NOT going to do eg NOT sticking to net zero agenda, NOT building schools and hospitals, NOT paying public sector workers properly, NOT acting on water pollution, NOT being clear on HS2 - the list is endless!
When was the British Empire REALLY over? What was the role of Ian Fleming (of James Bond fame)? How was his wife involved with the then leader of the Labour Party? Interested? Come and see ‘A Marvellous Year For Plums’
(at https://t.co/E9iySgSIYv Sep 28-30) at CAST Doncaster!
Why in the name of sanity is the Russell Brand issue thought important enough to ask the Foreign Secretary about it, when there are other matters of international importance ignored? Laura Kuenssberg?
@Lookinupatstars So much for uniform ‘levelling up’ pupils in UK schools! What a colossal waste of time and money when we live in an economic crisis. Most countries across Europe don’t bother with uniform, but of course many of them are in the EU so their standards must be inferior to ours!
@BrexitDoncNorth@NickFletcherMP@Conservatives@UKLabour@MyDoncaster If he’s present in Doncaster and cares, that’s fine. But his judgment? Supporting a government that doesn’t build enough houses, that demonises immigrants, that doesn’t process them quickly so they can work and contribute to the economy - there is no easy solution unfortunately!
@ATRightMovies An overlooked classic from the mid 60s - Arthur Penn’s THE CHASE - cast included Brando, Fonda, Redford plus James Fox, Robert Duvall, Janice Rule, Martha Hyer, Richard Bradford, Angie Dickinson, E.G. Marshall, Miriam Hopkins - wow!
