Both crew members of the downed F-15E Strike Eagle are now safe and out of Iranian territory.

Here's what happened:

The weapons systems officer ejected with the pilot when their jet was struck Thursday night.

While the pilot was recovered quickly, the WSO used SEER training (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) to evade capture for 48 hours.

He hiked away from the wreckage, hid on an elevated ridge, and activated his emergency beacon.

Iran had put out a reward for his capture. It became a manhunt with Iranians racing to reach him first.

The rescue operation was massive and costly:

A fierce firefight with Iranian forces.

Two U.S. helicopters were hit, crew members injured.

An A-10 Warthog flying suppressive cover crashed in Kuwait.

Multiple aircraft had to be destroyed.

The WSO sustained significant injuries but is now safe.

This was the most complex combat search and rescue operation since the start of the war. U.S. special operations went deep into Iranian territory, fought their way in, and fought their way out.

NEWS: Both crew members of the U.S. F-15 shot down over Iran have now been recovered, Axios reports, citing U.S. officials, after a 36-hour rescue operation inside Iranian territory.

President Donald Trump said the second airman is “SAFE and SOUND” following a search-and-rescue mission deep inside Iran, adding that another pilot had been rescued earlier but not publicly disclosed at the time.

At least five people were killed in strikes during the rescue mission in Dehdasht, southwest Iran, according to provincial officials.

🚨 The U.S. Air Force F-15E weapon systems officer has been recovered alive after ejecting over Iran yesterday, journalist Jack Murphy reports.

He said the WSO was evading capture on the ground as Iranian forces searched the area, with a “massive firefight” reported at the recovery site.
