I am a film-obsessed nerd who has been writing movie reviews since 2005. Check here and my FB and IG pages for the latest film/tv news and my website below!
It is my opinion that posting ones’ beliefs about politics, religion, and aardvarks on social media has never changed anyone’s mind, so you won’t find that from this account. What’s your favorite movie?
@RichardLNewby3 I adore Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein novel. I adore GDT’s adaptation of it. The movie makes major changes and omissions, but it’s still the best onscreen version I’ve seen for gettimg the characters perfectly and Shelley’s themes with clear understanding.
@DWLundberg They’re totally nostalgic for me, but I’ve seen better iterations of those characters in the years since, surprisingly on television shows of all places.
@DWLundberg I’m pretty sure the first film I saw her in was “Nell”. Solid enough movie, but she gave A+ work in it. “Silence of the Lambs” made me a fan of hers forever and I remember the first new movie I saw her in was “Elusium”. She’s wonderfully scummy in “Inside Man” too,
@ogwillin She’s really good in both of those. I want to see more of her work too, but I’ve generally enjoyed her a lot in what I have seen. Her accent is weird in “Elysium”, but it still fits for what her character represents in the story.
@RichardLNewby3 I approach it this way: Do I feel I got a good movie or show out of this, regardless of what it’s based on? The “Lanterns” pilot made some choices I don’t care for as an example, but I’m going to see where it goes and if its choices make sense in the long run.
Allen’s performance is one of the movie’s secret weapons. One of its underlying themes about how the society of the time forcing people into boxes negatively affects them and her character rejecting that box comes through thanks to Allen’s strong work here.
Happy Birthday to Joan Allen, who brings a lovely humanity to every movie she's in. Jonny and I just covered PLEASANTVILLE for NostalgiaCast and talk at length about her performance, in particular the surprisingly tender scene where Bud (Tobey Maguire) applies makeup to her face.
@jaiswolfcritic@RealGDT My expectations were doubly high since it’s my favorite book ever. It got me into horror, science fiction, and stories about complex characters. To me, while changes were made, it came back around to the original themes and nailed the characterizations better than any other.
@ogwillin@ThePatricIsReal I saw “Heat” once and liked it, but it didn’t stick with me or live up to the years of hype i’d had. I’d love to see her expand into other genres in the future along with the Rogue role, but I.m guessing a ton of directors took notice of her.
I don’t know or care what the context for this scene is, but I love that it’s officially part of an Addams Family thing. It’s just fun.

The pilot for “Lanterns” is…. Fine. There are some moments that will only make sense if you know what Green Lantern is going in, the grounded tone mostly works, and I like how seriously it takes itself. Aaron Pierre is a decent John Stewart and Kyle Chandler a fine older Hal.
Kyle Chandler has quietly been one of the strongest character actors of the last 20 years. I first saw him as Bruce Baxter in Peter Jackson’s “King Kong” and always love it when he pops up. I recommend “Friday Night Lights” for a lead role and “Wolf of Wall St” for supporting.
@DWLundberg If the show doesn’t go for me, that’s fine too. The movies are my main draw and “Peacemaker” isn’t my style. Aaron Pierre still needs to win me over in live-action, but if he can disappear into John Stewart, I’ll happily eat my words about him.
@DWLundberg THAT’s where we’re at in the timeline now? I haven’t watched the show yet, but that movie single-handedly made me believe Green Lantern was a lame superhero idea until I saw the “Justice League” 90s shows 3 years ago. The show Has to be better.
