@IrishAero@DublinAirport@Ryanair@PatKennyNT@NewstalkFM His focus seems to have fairly shifted from passenger cap to charges. Needs to remember not all passengers using Dub are low cost and infrastructure has to be built. That includes air bridges on pier 1 extension!
@Paul_J_Roche@James2438213388@DarraghOBrienTD It doesn’t matter if it “looks” reasonable to you or not. The airlines have all laid out their positions and pretty clearly too. As I’ve said previously they have to run a business and are not going provide loss making routes to satisfy a few peoples wish lists.
@Redacte20094317@IrishAero@BDeaneTweet@DarraghOBrienTD What a load of bollox 🤣 EU open skies came into effect and Ireland couldn’t force airlines to stop over at Shannon and instead they flew to where the demand actually was. Dublin now is the 4th or 5th busiest transatlantic airport in Europe. They are regionals fyi.
@Paul_J_Roche@James2438213388@DarraghOBrienTD Paul, stick to facts like a good man and back them up with evidence. Watch the debates. You’ll learn something. Passenger cap was enforced from Oct 24- March 25 when Ireland was th only country well below EU average for growth. Same period 25/26 Ireland had the highest growth.
@Paul_J_Roche@James2438213388@DarraghOBrienTD That’s not what I asked. I asked you to back up “Ireland has lost nothing with passenger cap existence”. I would really recommend you watch the airlines in the Oireachtas. You might learn something.
@Paul_J_Roche@James2438213388@DarraghOBrienTD A the actual point - how much has Dublin and Ireland lost by not removing the passenger cap in a timely manner? Ryanair are growing at Shannon and Knock but they are very limited markets.
@Paul_J_Roche@James2438213388@DarraghOBrienTD Airlines are a business, not public transport. It’s a very competitive global market. Plenty of work going on with regards to regional airports. It’s not one or the other
@Paul_J_Roche@James2438213388@DarraghOBrienTD It’s not how open skies and agreements work. Dublin is a slot controlled airport and airlines can’t be forced to move to other Ire airports . Again discussed in Oireachtas meetings. They’ll go to Manchester, London etc instead. Would you fly to Leeds as an alternative to London?
@Paul_J_Roche@James2438213388@DarraghOBrienTD Yes where ever they will fill the plane 7 day a week, morning, noon and night. Winter and summer. This is a far bigger issue than just Ryanair. IATA, Aer Lingus, Ryanair and Airlines for America have all spoken recently in the Oireachtas on this. You should watch it.
@Paul_J_Roche@James2438213388@DarraghOBrienTD Dublin competes with other large airports across Europe and beyond. Not with Shannon and Cork. If Dublin remains capped, airlines will go to Dublins competitors and not Shannon or Cork.
@mvparreeren@pedegro@Schiphol I live under flight path for Dub and have been in the garden all day today. One after the other. 737 max are much quieter than the 737-8. Likewise with the a320 Neo there’s a huge difference compared to the ceo. Th a330 is loud but there’s a huge difference in new aircraft.
