If you can, get off social media. Take a break. Watching black people die over and over again is not normal.
I shouldn’t know what approaching death looks like & I shouldn’t know it so well. I shouldn’t be used to seeing black lifeless bodies when aimlessly scrolling
the emotional & mental capacities of our communities can't continue to be collateral damage in the hopes of seeking justice at this rate. it's not sustainable. generational trauma is real. but these stories need to be told & justice needs to prevail. it's a rock & a v hard place.
watering down the very real and very valid trauma that comes with the constant circulation of videos of Black people being murdered to "discomfort" isn't helpful, equally, we can identify when we need people to see what is happening, and who specifically.
i don't think it's as simple as "share ALL the videos!" "don't share ANY of the videos!", but we can do better in the digital space in questioning our intent(s) and safeguarding communities that are having to grieve, protest and protect ourselves all at the same time.
