High-quality ELA materials used less than math? It's not about fidelity, but how to ensure coherency, quality and alignment when many teachers turn to TPT or Pinterest for instructional materials. And foundational skills? Too important to chance for haphazard curriculum!
I’m against it...never familiarize kids with vocabulary that authors will define or that can be figured out on the basis of context or morphology. And then just familiarize them...don’t try to really teach that vocab as prereading.

Another approach might be to follow the instructional research, stopping wherever the kids get the greatest benefit and worrying less about which adults win or lose.
