[FOUR LIMPOPO POLICE OFFICERS ARRESTED IN MPUMALANGA]
Four police officers attached to various units in Limpopo Province, namely Sergeant Lesiba Lucky Shogole (40) and Constable Malesela Daniel Huma (34) attached to Polokwane 10111 Flying Squad, Constable Thapelo Mcdonald Ledwaba (34) attached to Mahwelereng K9 and Constable Nthabiseng Sarafina Senama (34) attached to Lebowakgomo SAPS, have been arrested alongside a civilian, Johannes Komane (29), in connection with an alleged house robbery that took place in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga.
Reports indicate that a group of suspects, which included the four police officers and a female civilian, accosted the occupants of a residence in Lydenburg. The victims, who are Ethiopian nationals, were allegedly robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and several boxes of illicit cigarettes.
It is further alleged that the suspects used three vehicles during the commission of the crime, a marked SAPS Golf GTI belonging to the Polokwane Flying Squad, grey Toyota double cab bakkie and seven-seater Suzuki/Avanza.
The marked police vehicle and the Toyota bakkie were seized for further investigation. It was discovered that both vehicles had their registration numbers tampered with using black tape.
In addition, illicit cigarettes with an estimated street value of R1.5 million and an amount of R950 000 in cash were recovered from the scene. Two service firearms belonging to the arrested police officers were also confiscated.
The arrested copsโ were not on duty at the time of the incident and had not been assigned any official tasks in Mpumalanga.
The accused appeared before the Mashishing Magistrates Court facing charges of house robbery, possession of illicit cigarettes, and defeating the ends of justice. The case was postponed to Friday, 17 October 2025 for both the state and the defence to be ready with the necessary bail information.
All the accused remain in custody.
