Curiosity got me - I backtested this. 2007–2026, 30 liquid names, ~133k call entries, real ORATS bid/ask.

At mid, the rich+momentum grid is mildly green, like you saw. But buy that call and pay the actual spread (~5.8% of premium) and it's −4%/day, negative every era.

The "rich" part adds nothing - rich vs cheap among momentum names ≈ 0. The only real signal is plain momentum (+0.7%/day), and it's relative; you'd have to short the laggard calls to capture it, not buy the hot one.

It looked great because it was one up-day shown at mid. Net of the spread, the spread is the trade.
