Trying to mediate between believing and unbelieving Muslims (latter otherwise known as "apostates"/ex-Muslims) and persuading progressive allies to do the same.
Progressive Muslim allies, supporting Muslims includes non-believing Muslims ("apostates"/ex-Muslims), even when they offend believers. Both have an *equal* right to tell their stories and be heard. *And be safe doing so.*
@Soutiam21 I would also add - to compliment your excellent point - that POC wield that melanin stuff over each other, too. Yes, light-skinned POC may indeed enjoy relative privileges *at times,* but the key is *relative* privilege. A light-skinned African still doesn't count as "white."
@reasonvalues@SarahTheHaider@PeterTatchell identify themselves as Christian by their own standards, disregarding even churches, etc. What stops Muslims from doing the same? (Sincere question from an outsider, I'm not trying to push buttons for the hell of it.) 2/2
@reasonvalues@SarahTheHaider@PeterTatchell Islam as interpreted by traditional authorities proscribes homosexuality. To say otherwise is indeed a lie. But I'm proposing a hypothetical instead: Why should those authorities wield that over all Muslim consciences? Christians claim the freedom to /1
@MahirAbramo I kind of hijacked your point to make another point, Mahir, and I apologize for that. I think your pov here is entirely legitimate, but I myself am trying to concentrate on basic Muslim and ex-Muslim rights w/o distracting people with my takes on other issues, even this one.
@SarahTheHaider@PeterTatchell Sarah, what if instead of appealing to traditional Islamic authority, he challenged Muslims to claim the right to interpret Islam in ways that contradict that authority? Must we allow traditional scholars a monopoly on the term "Islam?" Must we concede that?
@PrincessVitarah You're giving me 80s car goddess mixed with Rihanna in Shut Up and Drive - a cocktail to get the weekend started on Monday!! https://t.co/BN1Ey7BuCo
@hugorifkind @honestlyAbroad @womensmarchlon @UKChange@PascaleFraze@KajalOdedra1@thetimes Islamophobia includes hate toward Muslim non-believers ("apostates"/ex-Muslims) who are double minorities in the UK and face hate from both the right (their skin, their names) and from believers (who interpret non-believers as transgressors against deity): https://t.co/6I06IwMmm5
@thewizard613 @concretemilk@PeterTatchell @ejel_khan No, I think Peter is trying to carve out a space for Muslims to claim the right to interpret their deen in ways that can defy traditional authorities. In other words, it's not "does Islam teach this" but "*must*" we say that Islam teaches this" going forward.
@G_Rodriguez_TO @CliftonsNotes@ArminNavabi Why is affirming Allah's (swt) gayness disrespectful? He created LGBT Muslims! They are just as Muslim as anyone else, and no one has the right to say otherwise!
@CliftonsNotes @G_Rodriguez_TO @ArminNavabi Islamophobia must include Muslim non-believers ("apostates"/ex-Muslims). Muslim lives matter even after they stop believing, or believe in ways that reject traditional authority: https://t.co/6I06IwMmm5
@PeterTatchell @ejel_khan Peter, only when Muslims can leave Islam w/o fear of violence will all Muslims have the power to claim their right to interpret Islam in ways that defy the traditional authorities and power structures. @CEMB_forum
We need to question ALL our white supremacist monuments, such as those that feature whites on top, Native Americans on the bottom. https://t.co/yf4reGNCIq
@Soutiam21 Thank you!! We customers have every right to demand that Twitter inform us of shadow banning and give us a reason codified in their codes of service, etc. If they can't, then they need to hire more people so they can!
@6siders Everyone's motto should be: "I may believe your thinking causes evil in the world, but the best antidote to that perceived evil is to treat you like a human being *first.*"
@Soutiam21 If someone is shadow banned, do any of their tweets make it through - like some, but only so many? Or is it none? And yes, they need to tell you why. That's called *customer service* and *professionalism.*
