Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra expresses serious concern over the proposed electricity tariff hike that could affect nearly 3.5 crore consumers across the state. This is negatively affect household budgets, small businesses, informal workers and farmers who are already under economic pressure.
A tariff hike of 5 to 10% in electricity will become one more burden when the cost of food, fuel, healthcare, housing and education is already quite high.
We are particularly concerned that the proposed hike comes despite an earlier regulatory order providing for tariff reduction.
Regulatory processes must remain transparent, consistent and accountable. Review mechanisms should not be used in ways that weaken public trust or dilute decisions taken in the public interest. Also, shifting the burden of inefficiencies and accumulated costs of power distribution companies directly onto consumers is neither fair nor sustainable.
Structural reforms, better governance and cost control within utilities must take priority over routine tariff increases.
We also note concerns raised about changes that discourage rooftop solar adoption. Policies should promote decentralised and renewable energy, not penalise citizens who invest in clean power.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra urges regulators and the state government to prioritise affordability, equity and transparency. Public consultations must meaningfully influence final decisions, and access to affordable electricity.
Maharashtra should set an example for the country when it comes to power production, distribution and pricing.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra expresses deep concern over the approval granted by the State Board for Wildlife to an iron ore mining project in the Lohardongri area of Chandrapur district, located in a critical tiger corridor linked to the Tadoba–Andhari landscape.
This decision raises serious questions about our collective commitment to wildlife protection, environmental balance, and human safety.
Wildlife corridors are not empty forest patches; they are essential pathways that allow animals, especially tigers, to move safely between habitats. Disrupting these corridors weakens conservation efforts built over decades and increases the risk of animals straying into farms and villages.
Chandrapur has already witnessed alarming levels of human–wildlife conflict, with frequent loss of human lives. Further fragmentation of forests will only worsen this tragic situation, harming both people and wildlife.
It is deeply troubling that expert committees and wildlife specialists had earlier advised rejection of this project, clearly stating that the environmental damage would far outweigh the limited economic benefits.
The diversion of nearly 36 hectares of reserved forest land and the felling of over 18,000 trees for a project offering minimal and largely temporary employment cannot be justified as sustainable development.
We believe that development choices must be guided by long-term public interest, ecological responsibility, and respect for expert knowledge. Ignoring scientific warnings undermines trust in environmental governance and places vulnerable communities and endangered species at greater risk.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra urges the authorities, including national-level bodies, to review this decision with seriousness and sensitivity.
Protecting wildlife corridors, preserving forests, and preventing avoidable human–wildlife conflict must remain non-negotiable priorities.
Development is essential but sustainable development is the need of the hour.

We urge the state government and police of Uttarakhand to act decisively: ensure swift arrest of all accused, apply the strongest legal provisions without delay, protect survivors and witnesses, and guarantee justice and compensation to the bereaved family.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra is concerned about the PIL highlighting the destruction of mangroves and private forest land in our state.
Mangroves protect our coast, support wildlife, and guard communities from floods. When they are destroyed, the loss harms everyone, especially the poor.
Islam teaches us that the earth is a trust from Allah and that we must not create corruption on land or water.
Protecting nature is part of our moral duty. We request the state government and all concerned departments to act with sincerity and enforce the laws that safeguard our forests.
Delays and confusion between departments should not be an excuse for continued damage. Strong and timely action will help restore the environment and uphold the rights of future generations.
We also appreciate the efforts of organisations like Vanashakti for raising this issue. Citizens, policymakers, and civil society must work together to protect the natural heritage that belongs to all.

New Delhi: The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Syed Sadatullah Husaini, addressing the press meet at the JIH headquarters, reiterated JIH’s unequivocal condemnation of all forms of radicalisation and extremism and expressed deep concern over multiple national issues that demand immediate government attention.
On the Delhi blast, Syed Sadatullah Husaini said, “We condemn in the strongest terms the brutal attack that claimed innocent lives. JIH strongly denounces every form of radicalisation, extremism, and violence - whoever the perpetrator and whatever the claimed motive. Suicide attacks and mass violence violate every principle of human dignity, morality, and civilisation. Terrorism must be opposed by every citizen and institution. ” He expressed serious concern about security lapses highlighted by both the Red Fort explosion and the recent ammunition blast at Nowgam police station in Srinagar, which killed nine people and injured many - incidents that show persistent vulnerabilities in the security apparatus. He also expressed concern over media-driven stereotyping and vilification of entire communities, noting that such narratives deepen social divisions and play into terrorists’ strategies.
Regarding the air pollution crisis, Syed Sadatullah Husaini called for a nationwide, science-based, year-round clean-air strategy rather than episodic measures. He urged coordinated central-state action, stricter enforcement of industrial and vehicular norms, farmer-friendly solutions to crop residue burning, and expansion of clean public mobility to protect public health and livelihoods.
On Waqf registration, the President outlined JIH’s practical response: the establishment of a central Waqf Help Desk and state Waqf Cells backed by nearly 150 trained volunteers, workshops, helplines and field assistance to help mutawallis complete uploads on the UMEED Portal. He urged the government to extend the registration deadline and urgently fix portal technical faults so no Waqf property is lost due to system failures. Sadatullah Hussaini reiterated JIH’s principled opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act as the act in place violets the fundamental rights of minorities and is against the constitutional morality.
On Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Husaini raised alarm over the human cost i.e. heavy workload on BLOs, reports of deaths and severe stress, and procedural opacity. JIH demands that the Election Commission publicly clarify SIR’s scope (it is not a citizenship-verification drive), increase staffing, extend timelines, provide mental-health and medical support for field staff, and institute transparent grievance redressal with independent oversight.
JIH Vice President Prof. Salim Engineer and Malik Motasim Khan also addressed to the Media.
Why We Need Leaders Like Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz Today
In an era where we witness land deals worth ₹1,800 crore being sold for merely ₹300 crore, where stamp duties are bypassed, and public trust is violated for private gain, we are reminded of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz (717-720 CE).
This remarkable ruler rejected the luxuries of his position, living simply despite being caliph. He returned confiscated properties to their rightful owners and fought corruption relentlessly. His brief reign of just 2-3 years became a beacon of justice because he understood that public office is a sacred trust, not an opportunity for personal enrichment.
Today's controversies, from questionable trust land sales to allegations against public officials, reveal how far we've strayed from these principles.
When religious institutions meant for underprivileged students are allegedly compromised, when procedural lapses cost the state exchequer crores, we desperately need leaders who emulate Umar bin Abdul Aziz's integrity.
True leadership means protecting public interests over private profits, transparency over backroom deals, and service over self-enrichment.
Let us demand and strive to become leaders who embody these timeless values.

We strongly condemn the arrest of activist Sonam Wangchuk in Ladakh. He has been booked under NSA, which indicates that the Government's intentions are to keep him behind bars for a long time. The recent violence during public protests demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards is deeply troubling. However, the targeting of peaceful dissenters and activists is unjustified.
The genuine demands of people of Ladakh deserve urgent and sincere attention. It is very unfortunate that concerned citizens and activists are unfairly being branded as ‘anti-national’ or ‘seditious’ by sections of the media and political class. Such labelling diverts attention from the genuine grievances of the people, dangerously polarises the atmosphere, and further aggravates their concerns.
We urge the government to release Sonam Wangchuk immediately and to engage in meaningful, constructive dialogue with the people of Ladakh to resolve the ongoing crisis.

"We are calling for India to stand on the right side of history. This is not about picking sides in a geopolitical rivalry but about choosing humanity over brutality, law over impunity, and truth over propaganda.
India's leadership must rise above economic statistics and defence alignments. Let us not shrink from history but shape it.
Let India rise again as the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the oppressed, and the moral conscience of the world.

Gaza is Starving. The World Cannot Remain Silent: Indian Muslim Leaders Urge Government to Act as Famine Looms
New Delhi: Leading Indian Muslim organizations, religious scholars, and civil society groups convened a press conference today at the Press Club of India and issued a joint statement expressing grave concern over the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. They called upon the Government of India to play a more assertive and morally courageous role in halting Israel’s ongoing aggression.
Addressing the media, the leaders described the situation in Gaza as an “unprecedented humanitarian disaster,” warning that famine is now an imminent and devastating threat.
“Gaza is starving. Not acting at this point would be a historic crime,” they declared.
They highlighted that with humanitarian aid blocked and Gaza’s infrastructure decimated, over two million residents are facing mass starvation, a collapse of medical systems, and a complete breakdown of essential services.
“Over 90% of hospitals and healthcare centres are bombed or non-functional. Entire neighborhoods have been erased. Families are surviving on scraps. Newborns are dying in incubators for lack of fuel. Doctors are performing surgeries without anesthesia. Every fundamental human system - health, education, nutrition, sanitation - has collapsed. This is not self-defense; it is the systematic annihilation of a people.”
The leaders acknowledged India’s recent position at the United Nations, where its Permanent Representative called for a ceasefire and emphasized the humanitarian emergency.
“We welcome our country’s recent statement at the UN General Assembly reaffirming our commitment to an independent Palestinian state and the call for an immediate ceasefire. It is a positive step.” However, they strongly urged the Indian government to go beyond expressions of concern and step into a role of global moral leadership. “India must denounce the indiscriminate bombing of civilians, the targeting of hospitals and schools, and the collective punishment of an entire population. Words matter, but actions matter more. India has both the historical standing and the diplomatic weight to lead the international community in calling out this genocide and holding war criminals accountable.”
They also called for the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors, and for India to suspend all military and strategic cooperation with Israel until the aggression ceases. “India has a proud legacy of standing with the oppressed. We must honour that legacy now by acting decisively. Silence and neutrality are not options when genocide is unfolding before our eyes.”
The leaders appealed to the Indian public to remain aware and engaged. “Palestine is not merely a Muslim concern. It is a humanitarian concern - a matter of universal justice and human dignity. We urge students, civil society, faith leaders, academics, and all conscientious citizens to raise their voices - through protests, awareness campaigns, interfaith dialogues, and scholarly discourse. Gaza must not be forgotten.”
They also expressed concern over reports of incidents in some areas where solidarity with Palestine is being criminalized or suppressed, stating: “Support for Palestine is not extremism. It is a defense of international law, of basic human rights, and of the very values enshrined in our Constitution. Citizens must be free to express their conscience without intimidation or fear.”
The statement included a sharp appeal to the leadership of Muslim-majority countries:
“We urge Muslim countries to cut diplomatic and economic ties with Israel, and to form a united front demanding an end to this barbarism.”
The conference concluded with a strong call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and the urgent establishment of humanitarian corridors to allow the flow of food, water, fuel, and medical aid to the besieged civilians of Gaza.

New Delhi, 22 June 2025: The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) convened its session on 22 June 2025, presided over by its President, Syed Sadatullah Husaini. On the opening day, the Council unanimously adopted the following resolution on the deteriorating situation in the Middle East:
"The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind strongly condemns the unilateral and aggressive military offensive by the United States against Iran and expresses its full solidarity with the Iranian people. The unfolding crisis in the Middle East is a matter of profound concern for peace-loving and justice-seeking people across the globe. The aggressive unilateral actions of the United States and the expansionist ambitions of Israel are directly responsible for the present escalation. These attacks constitute blatant violations of international law and the UN Charter, and pose a grave threat to regional and global peace and stability.
The Council notes with alarm the silence and complicity of major Western powers, which continue to embolden Israeli aggression and amplify the destructive impact of American support. The ongoing bombardment of Iran’s nuclear facilities and civilian areas is pushing the region toward a devastating and protracted war.
It is particularly disturbing that no credible evidence has been presented by any international authority to prove Iran’s violation of the nuclear agreement. Nevertheless, the United States has acted unilaterally, flouting international norms and undermining the global framework for peace and justice. The Council considers this not only a grossly irresponsible and dangerous move but one that could trigger a severe humanitarian disaster—including mass civilian casualties, infrastructure collapse, displacement, and economic destabilization—endangering humanity at large.
The Council also condemns in the strongest terms the blatant double standards of global powers—whereby Israel’s unilateral and aggressive actions are justified as ‘self-defense,’ while any form of Iranian response is labeled as ‘terrorism.’ Such hypocrisy represents one of the most serious threats to international peace and justice.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind urges the Government of India to take a proactive diplomatic initiative to secure an immediate ceasefire, de-escalate tensions, and uphold the historic principles of Indian foreign policy—non-alignment, anti-imperialism, and support for oppressed nations, particularly in the Global South.
Furthermore, the Council calls upon the international community to:
•Immediately halt the US-Israeli military aggression;
•Prosecute those responsible for Israeli aggression, including ongoing genocide and war crimes against the Palestinian people; and
•Put an end to all attacks on nuclear installations and civilian populations without delay.
The Council urges Muslim-majority countries to move beyond mere condemnations and fulfill their moral and Islamic obligations by taking concrete and coordinated action to end this aggression. It also appeals to peace-loving citizens of India and the world to stand in solidarity with the Iranian people and all oppressed communities in the region, and to raise their voices against Zionist and American aggression in the interest of justice and lasting global peace."
