Watch: When asked whether this peace deal was influenced by pressure from other countries and to what extent international pressure contributed to the agreement, Iranian political analyst, Mohammad Khatibi says, "I think many countries had an influence on the process, including Southeast Asian economies that were under heavy pressure due to rising oil prices, as well as countries in the Persian Gulf region such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain, which were affected by the conflict and the economic strain caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This war did not benefit anyone in the region. In my view, Israel was the only country that appeared to gain strategically from it, as it carried out operations against Lebanon and Iran and continues to occupy parts of southern Lebanon..."
Watch: When asked how long do you think this peace agreement between U.S.-Iran is likely to hold, Iranian political analyst, Mohammad Khatibi says, "It depends on the United States and on what demands it has from this deal. I think that as long as maximalist demands continue, there will be no permanent ceasefire or lasting solution. However, we are seeing signs that the United States has started to recognize some of Iran’s rights..."
Watch: When asked whether there is a possibility that Israel or the United States could launch another attack, as has happened in the past, Mohammad Khatibi says, "I think that Israel can do anything because, in the past, it has torpedoed peace deals between Iran and the United States. Even this time, before the announcement of the peace deal, Israel launched an attack in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which Iran now sees as a red line. Iran did not respond to that, but in recent days we have seen that Israel has done its best to torpedo the agreement... Iran wants this war to end for many reasons, including the pressure on its economy and the fact that the current situation does not benefit anyone in the region..."
Watch: When asked about the U.S.-Iran peace deal, Iranian political analyst, Mohammad Khatibi says, "I think this peace deal is a breakthrough in diplomacy... Many countries around the world are also closely watching developments in the region because of the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz and its impact on the global economy. I believe that if this peace deal is finalized, it could help ensure the smooth functioning of the Strait of Hormuz..."
