@gohomekinney@disevidence@DrewSXZLL I don’t get why the caveat of “someone’s life needs to be tangibly improved” always needs to be attached to this question. We as a nation don’t advocate rehabilitative justice! The system works off retributive justice, which Avon receives bc of Major Crimes
@Okonkwo_Sports Genuinely racking my brain for what kind of societal critique BB could possibly be making. Even BCS doesn’t really critique the justice system other than public defenders being overworked and underpaid
@disevidence@DrewSXZLL Except that when Daniels gets good policemen, he does in fact do good police work. Why are you so against The Wire being copaganda?
@murph369900@iHateYeahTeriq Propaganda is conceptually neutral, your opinion on it is entirely based on your stance to a given propaganda’s message. The judgement of media is, or should be, totally removed from your relation to its message imo
@locallover4u@AstralBlackLord That’s irrelevant and an unreachable goal. The point of the show is that there is gun crime and urban decay in Baltimore and the BPD is what negates it. The system is flawed and doomed to never cause real change, but that’s not the fault of (most) cops themselves
@polywoodog@YallLuvCris The Wire is very obviously critical of the bureaucracy involved in being a cop, but fundamentally reinforces the idea that cops as a concept are good; they’ve just been bastardized by the system.
@polywoodog@YallLuvCris That wasn’t because of the system, that was because they used an illegal wiretap. The entire case was based on shaky evidence as a result. The real POLICE WORK was done by the Bunk and ended with a conviction
