BJP सरकार यह याद रखे कि वो अपने तानाशाही रवैए से हमारी आवाज नहीं दबा सकती। हम पीड़ित परिवार के लिए न्याय की आवाज बुलंद करेंगे और हर अन्याय के खिलाफ मजबूती से लड़ेंगे।

Yesterday, the BJP's socmedia handles thought it appropriate to post misogynistic, crude AI fake images in a bizarre attempt to denigrate a former President of the Congress Party, who is also a sitting Rajya Sabha member.

The fact that official ruling party handles posted these images right before BRICS is a national embarrassment. As major world leaders arrive in India, this is what you want to advertise — that the country's largest political party's media is run by women-hating trolls?

Meanwhile, let's take a closer look at what the BJP fears so greatly.

In India, we worship women as “Devi.”

We speak endlessly about Nari Samman, Sanskar and Sanskriti. We quote our history, our traditions and our scriptures to tell the world how deeply India respects its women.

But sometimes I wonder how much of that respect survives when a woman becomes politically inconvenient?

Look at Sonia Gandhi’s journey.

A young woman who left her homeland, came to India, married into an Indian family and slowly made this country her home.

She learned the language.
She embraced the culture.
She adapted to the traditions.
She built her life here.

And then life took away the people she loved most.

She witnessed her mother-in-law, Indira Gandhi, being assassinated.

Years later, she lost her husband, Rajiv Gandhi, to another assassination.

Imagine carrying that kind of grief.

Yet she stayed.

And when she eventually entered politics, another battle began.

Her foreign origin became a weapon.

Her accent became a joke.

Her Hindi became a target.

Her identity was questioned.

Personal stories were twisted, rumours were circulated, and fake narratives were repeatedly used to attack her dignity.

For years, she was made to feel that no matter how long she lived in India, she would still have to prove that she belonged here.

And yet she continued.

She learned.
She adapted.
She served.
She endured.

She eventually became one of the most consequential political figures in the country.

And when she had the opportunity to become Prime Minister in 2004, she chose not to occupy the office and instead supported Manmohan Singh for the post.

You can disagree with her politics.

You can question her decisions.

You can oppose the Congress.

That is democracy.

But political disagreement should never become an excuse to destroy a woman’s dignity.

Because there is something deeply disturbing about a society that calls women “Devi” in speeches, lectures others about Bharatiya Sanskriti, and then treats a woman with contempt simply because she is a political opponent.

We owe Sonia Gandhi an apology.

Not for political disagreements.

Not for criticism.

But for every time politics crossed the line into cruelty, humiliation, personal hatred and deliberate dehumanisation.

After everything she has endured, after everything she has given to the country she chose as her home, she deserved disagreement — not degradation.

And perhaps the apology is not just to Sonia Gandhi.

It is to the very idea of Nari Samman that we so proudly preach.

Because the real test of our culture isn’t how respectfully we speak about women we admire.

It is how humanely we treat the woman we disagree with.

And on that test, perhaps all of us have some soul-searching to do.
