BREAKING: The wealthiest 1% of US earners now own 50.1% of US equity and mutual fund holdings.
To put this into perspective, their ownership stood at 40.1% in 1990 and 39.6% in 2001.
At the same time, the next 9% wealthiest households own 37.3%, and the middle 40% own just 11.7%.
By comparison, the bottom 50.0% of earners hold just 1.1%.
As a result, the top 10% of earners now own ~87.4% of all equity and mutual fund assets.
Asset owners are the only winners in this economy.

PERFORMANCE OF THE ECONOMY REPORT FOR JUNE 2026:
There was continued improvement in the level of economic activity as shown by the high frequency indicators of economic activity. Both the Purchasing Managersโ Index (PMI) and the Composite Index of Economic Activity (CIEA) recorded improvements.
The private sector remains highly optimistic about business conditions and the general outlook on the economy as indicated by the Business Tendency Index (BTI) which remained above the 50-mark threshold at 54.4 in June 2026.
This optimism by the private sector is partly driven by improving prospects in domestic and external demand and a stable macroeconomic environment.
The Shilling appreciated against all major currencies during the month, strengthening by 1.4 percent against the US Dollar, 2.8 percent against the Euro, and 2.6 percent against the British Pound Sterling.
The appreciation against the US Dollar was largely driven by strong foreign exchange inflows from commodity exporters and offshore investors.
Earnings from merchandise exports increased by 12.8 percent year-on-year to USD 1,346.12 million in May 2026, up from USD 1,192.87 million in May 2025. This growth was primarily driven by higher earnings from gold, tobacco and oil re-exports, electricity.
However, export receipts experienced a 4.2 percent month-on-month decline from USD 1,405.14 million in April 2026, largely due to a drop in earnings from coffee and gold between April 2026 and May 2026.
There was also a slight increase in the general price level of goods and services in June 2026, depicted by annual headline inflation which rose to 3.7 percent from 3.2 percent in May 2026. The increase was mainly driven by higher domestic fuel pump prices which also affected prices of some other goods and services.

Finance Minister @henrymusasizi1 today met the Board of Directors and Management of National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to discuss the status of the Fund, its operations and contribution to Ugandaโs Tenfold Growth Strategy.
The team was led by the Chairperson of the Board Dr. David Ogong and the Managing Director, Patrick Ayota.
The Minister thanked the leadership of NSSF for growing the Fund from Shs 26 trillion in June 2025 to Shs 32.8 trillion by June 2026, adding that the Fund should continue prioritizing safety of workers savings but with a change in investment strategy.
Musasizi said NSSF can mobilise and provide patient domestic capital required to implement Ugandaโs Tenfold Growth Strategy.
Patrick Ayota said the Fund has maintained member satisfaction at 95%. He said the target is to grow the Fund to Shs.80 trillion by 2035, adding that NSSF is ready to partner with government in the transformation agenda with focus on protecting member value, growing enterprises, jobs, formalization and mobilizing long-term domestic capital.
The Chairperson of the Board said NSSF is already investing in Tenfold growth priorities such as agro-processing, tourism, mineral based development as well as science, technology and innovation.
According to @nssfug leadership, Government needs to provide a bankable investment environment for member-value capital.
The Minister of State for Planning, Amos Lugoloobi called for the improvement of the ecosystem for investment, adding that the Fund is well protected by the Law and should leverage the available resources to grow the economy.
The meeting was also attended by the Ministers of State for Privatization and Investment, Aminah Mukalazi and that of General Duties, Ciccy Mulondo.
