It has become time. Like the alpha and the omega, there is a beginning and an end. It’s time to move. Headed over to bluesky since @DGlaucomflecken moved there. Hope to see the rest of you over there.
Dr. Neil Cunningham is a Melbourne ER doc. I can't tell you how many patients he has sped through my care and been relieved of their shoulder dislocation - via the "Cunningham technique" - https://t.co/rVrK3JVOvh - best of the profession. @drncunningham
@raghu_venugopal@Avis_Favaro We’re trying! 100 ALC beds clearing with transitional care funding. Should allow better flow in the ER. We’ll keep working on more … the key is we need to start thinking outside the box constantly to unblock ourselves …
One of the most challenging things I see it that payment systems don’t necessarily align with the best model of care. For example, great regional programs can be developed if we stopped thinking at the institutional level and developed system approaches to tackling problems 1/
I congratulate @markhollandlib as the new Minister of Health. I know my late brother, Arnold, would have been so proud of you. Come chat with us on the front lines as there is much work to do.
What an incredible investment in children’s health research! Thank you @susabenseler for your leadership.🙏🏻
We at @CIHR_IHDCYH look forward to collaborating to continue to improve the lives of children and families in Canada and beyond through health research.🎉
Canada’s infant mortality rate went from ranking 10th out of 24 OECD countries in the 1980s to 30th out of 38 OECD nations in 2021. This is very concerning. https://t.co/DwVHFkTikb
Just started @LHSC at Corporate Medical Executive with a 6 hour strategic planning day! What an exciting way to start with a period of imaging the future!
Let's fix health care!
1. Centralized referrals. Need a cardiologist? I fill out the same form as everyone else in Ontario and it's sent to one place. That place organizes where my patient goes based on their address, their issues & waitlists. Done.
We need to vaccinate against influenza A faster. This graph from Johns Hopkins shows that influenza A has spiked 2 months earlier than usual. This corresponds with the acuity in the pediatric hospitals.
Hang in there and never be afraid to ask for help! I still do after 20+ years. Best lesson I ever learnt was in one of my first shifts as an ER fellow, Marilyn Li who is one of the founders of peds ER asked me if I would call an X-ray positive or not. Don’t be afraid to ask.
It is in this busy viral season that I start my first series of night shifts @mch_childrens as a junior resident. I will strive to do my part and ask for help when I reach my limits, to care for unprecedented numbers of very sick patients
