I haven’t seen enough people talk about this but this NEEDS to be said.

Raiden was a HUGE step up from the last movie and more closely resembled his true character.

In the first movie he was an asshole and was shitting all over his champions “This is what I have to work with?” and never a single time showing care or empathy and never took time to act like a true mentor. He also doesn’t do his job as protector of Earth.

While Raiden isn’t super involved in the movie there are differences that make a BIG difference. The first thing he says when he sees Revenant Kung Lao is “My son?” and sees both Liu Kang and Kung Lao as his sons. He actually teaches and encourages everyone and especially Johnny Cage about what it means to be chosen and at times shows genuine humor. These small differences actually make Raiden… well… Raiden.

Christopher Lambert’s, MKX, and MK Legends version of Raiden understand this and now live action MK2 Raiden is 100% a step in the right direction. I want to see more.

Mortal Kombat 2 just wow, I left the cinema feeling so satisfied with how it came out. Best film I’ve seen in ages.

I’ve been a Mortal Kombat fan since I was 5 years old and for 11 years it was a huge part of who I was when I was a dedicated Mortal Kombat YouTuber. I stopped being a YouTuber to pursue other passions and also because of my dissatisfaction with the direction of the franchise. Being excited for anything Mortal Kombat related has essentially been non existent since I retired content creation and as many people know I HEAVILY disliked the 2021 MK movie being one of the very few YouTubers who said it goes against the essence of Mortal Kombat.

I gave Mortal Kombat 2 a fair chance. I’m so grateful that I did. This movie had me jumping in my seat and laughing and giddy at everything this movie has to offer. As a huge lore head, I am VERY surprised at the niche details the movie had that I had thought were forgotten and only remembered by hardcore fans. The fights and violence were incredible and intense. You sometimes didn’t know who was going to win or where the fight would go. The stakes were well felt ESPECIALLY in the Liu Kang and Kung Lao fight. I was shocked that had my heart racing with that fight. The characters were treated so well. Not everything was perfect, there was a lot of cheesy moments, questionable story choices, and more meat on the story could have been there but what was lacking in the first movie was not lacking as much here and the benefits and greatness that this movie had outweighs its flaws.

This movie reminded me of why I love Mortal Kombat. I haven’t felt this excited and happy with Mortal Kombat in a VERY long time. This was needed not only for me but for the franchise. I will be seeing this again and buying it on physical. I want to see more and if this is how they are going to direct the franchise, I’m seated. Go watch this movie. Support it.

The fans were listened to and I’m thankful. Mortal Kombat has always been and always will be. 🐲🐉

Another thing about the Mortal Kombat 2 movie which I IMMENSELY appreciated is how shooting projectiles didn't require "Dragon Ball Z" style charge up scenes. Liu was throwing fire like martial arts punches.

I’m such an idiot. Karl Urban was incredible as Johnny Cage and Mortal Kombat II may be the best video game adaption ever. That movie ruled on so many levels.

I've waited nearly 30 years since first watching the Original Mortal Kombat movie on my 13th birthday for another good MK movie and the new one did not disappoint.

It brought together the best of the game's story telling from MK2-4, the comedy hit super well, the stages, references and move sets were well done. Kano was great as expected but I think Baraka was the sleeper hit of the film. Karl Urban did great as Cage but I think Glen Powell would have been a stronger one. Here's hoping the Street Fighter Movie is as entertaining when it comes out in October and fighting game fans will be eating good.
