For several years I enjoyed the use of this platform for work, and non-work related, matters. It was a great example of engagement beyond academia. Both I, and many PhD students and collaborators, really enjoyed and benefitted from it. 1/

Over time, the benefits of being on here have been outweighed by (i) the platform maximising engagement in unhelpful ways, and (ii) the sense that being on here might be seen *in any whatsoever* as an endorsement of its owners. 2/

I took odds from bookmakers for the upcoming Irish general election and worked out the win probability for each candidate. Tight between FF&FG for largest party; they may well be able to govern together without the need for a 3rd coalition partner.
Just now getting a chance to look at the exit polls.
Turns out Harris did just fine with Black voters -- almost identically to Biden in 2020.
But among Latinos, Harris is a mere +8 (53-45) whereas Biden was +33 (65-32) in 2020.
This exit poll data is wild:
White men, white women, Black men, Black women, Latina women ALL tracking their 2020 numbers very closely.
Latino men, 2020: Biden 59%, Trump 36%
Latino men, 2024: Harris 45%, Trump 53%
A HUGE shift from D+23 to R+8
