@BerkhimerKenedi@TimothyPShea#lbcinclusion@BerkhimerKenedi@TimothyPShea "The result is that 'certain children' are left farther and farther behind. The rich get richer and the poor get worksheets." Why do we put limits on learning based on SES? We need to challenge students despite misinformed assumptions.
@TeachThought Write Around - this provides the space for students to have a conversation and build off of the thoughts and ideas of others. @TimothyPShea#lbcinclusion
@TimothyPShea R2: Reading can be implemented within the classroom through novels, picture books, poems, and more. These texts can help students to interact with the world around them. #ReadWriteTeach
@TimothyPShea R4: Students interact with social media everyday. They read and write this way, so it is a tool we can use in our classroom to start the conversation of bias, and other literary features. We can also use this as a means for students to interact with content. #ReadWriteTeach
@TimothyPShea R1: A math journal is a possible low-stakes writing tool in math. Here students can take notes and then respond to the content through writing. This allows for students to work with their content on a deeper level of thinking and to form their own opinions. #ReadWriteTeach
@TimothyPShea R3: Media and technology are avenues of reading and writing. We can implement movie clips, songs, shows, online artwork, etc. within our classrooms to expose students to reading and writing that takes a different form. #ReadWriteTeach@TimothyPShea
@TimothyPShea A3:Music would be the hardest because it lacks the visual aspect. In math, these other pieces can be paused and drawn on to show the practical application of math. Although, there could be a quote from a song might lead us to a big question that could be an intro. #ReadWriteTeach
@TimothyPShea I have been thinking about how to implement film in the math classroom. I want to look deeper into this, but I think I would try to find scenes from films where I could connect math concepts. ie) perspective, angles, proportions #ReadWriteTeach
@esBritish@kierandonaghy#ReadWriteTeach This article lays out clear logic behind implementing film in the classroom. Engagement, variety, and visuals are just some of the benefits of film. There are also suggestions for lesson plans and ESL students. @TimothyPShea

This article/study shows that there are benefits to handwriting instead of typing. Interesting to note as we think about writing in our classrooms versus the use of computers.
We need to ensure students are exposed to writing, drawing, & typing to ensure the appropriate circuits get wired in the brain and we are not limiting memory encoding with an over-emphasis on typing. #edtech
