Over the past 2 days foggy whiteout conditions have made it nearly impossible to see what the eruption inside Halemaʻumaʻu crater is up to. There were several reports that the eruption had stopped or paused, but we are here to let you know that Pele is still doing her thing!

We have never seen #Kīlauea quite like this before!

This photo shows the lava lake within Halemaʻumaʻu crater in a unique state. The torrential rains we have experienced here over the past 48-hrs have saturated the lava lake, in turn producing truly incredible amounts of steam.

The summit eruption here on Kīlauea continues - the total erupted volume since the beginning of the eruption was estimated to be about 30 million cubic meters (7.8 billion gallons) on November 16!

The surface of the lava lake continues to rise about 1m (3ft) per day with a total increase of about 56m (184ft) since lava emerged on SEPT 29.

New reference map of Kīlauea summit eruption!

Some impressive numbers - the top of the lava lake is now 55m (180ft) thick. Total volume is estimated to be over 28 million cubic meters (7.5 BILLION Gallons) and 62 hectares (153 acres) in total surface area.

Spatter continues on #Kīlauea volcano! Low fountain a few meters (yards) tall was frequently interrupted by larger series of bursts throwing lava more than 15m (50ft) into the air and onto the interior walls of the vent cone.
