Kilmainham Gaol

We are here to keep alive on a social site the memories of the many men who died before an age when opinions could be shared so easily and without consequence.

@Kings_Heath @dublinholidays @GuinnessIreland Why thank you very much. What varied but good tastes you have.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

@NicolaHayward3 Nah I'm not unofficial i can promise you that. I m definitely certified.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

@HollyFur you're just annoyed because our museum is better than your museum. What's with a women's museum? you can see women anywhere.

@cormacokelly @collinsbarracks I couldn't agree more. Please follow and please re-tweet.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

@messages4rach yeah same here, mate.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

Uncomfortable But: it is a fact that most tweets twittered on twitter derive directly from Wikipedia. Trust me I just checked on wikipedia.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

Uncomfortable but-More people were executed in Kilmainham, during the few years of the civil war than in the 120 preceding years

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

@HollyFur I don't want to be #imprisoned by my own thinking. Or anyone elses labels.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

@HollyFur That's quite a thing to call someone.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

The letters G A O L were used to spell jail until recently when we adopted the american english spelling from our brothers in America .FACT

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

Kilmanham Gaol: a reminder of a place when Jails were Gaols, and prisoners were not allowed x boxes, one call a week and visits from mum+dad

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

@HollyFur I was just about to ask you the same thing.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

The alter at kilmaiham Gaol's chapel was built by a teenage boy imprisoned for stealing a cart.'pray for me' is believed carved on the wood.

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

One of the surprises you'll find at Kilmainham is that often no attempts were made to hide graffiti #thewritingsonthewall @OldDublinTown

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

Bridget Butterly 19 and Bridget Ennis were the last women to be hanged here, in 1821. @dublinholidays @VisitDublin @OldDublinTown

[Kilmainham Gaol @KilmainhamGaol]

Did you know, during the famine, some people actually committed crimes to get into the Gaol for a guaranteed free meal a day!
