6/ We don't listen enough; we tell people what's good for them.
And when progressives like Bernie aggressively go after the elites that hold people down, they are shunned as dangerous populists. Why? Maybe because true economic populism is bad for our high-income base. 😬
5/ Does racism explain part of the attraction of the right's nativism? Of course. But mass deportation is a (terrible) response to Americans' real sense they are helpless in the face of global forces (like increased migration). The left largely ignores this pain.
4/ The left skips past the way people are feeling (alone, impotent, overwhelmed) and straight to uninspiring solutions (more roads! bulk drug purchasing!) that do little to actually upset the status quo of who has power and who doesn't.
3/ The things that mattered are disappearing. We spend half as much time with friends as a generation ago. Hard work no longer guarantees economic mobility. Institutions (like churches) are delegitimized. Place based identity evaporates as we all become "global citizens."
2/ The left has never fully grappled with the wreckage of fifty years of neoliberalism, which has left legions of Americans adrift as local places are hollowed out, rapacious profit seeking cannibalizes the common good, and unchecked new technology separates and isolates us.
That was a cataclysm. Electoral map wipeout. Senate D practical ceiling is now 52 seats. R's is 62.
Time to rebuild the left.
We are out of touch with the crisis of meaning/purpose fueling MAGA. We refuse to pick big fights. Our tent is too small.
1/ Some early thoughts:
To report him for hospice and insurance fraud.
And then they all got real quiet and stopped texting me.
I'd rather be an orphan than related to trump supporters. Good riddance, terrible people.
I was just cut out of the will. I told my trump supporting father I hope he drinks himself to death and called my feckless mother a hand maiden for white supremacy. My siblings tried to go after me, and I threatened one of them with a phone call to the AGs of AZ and WA (1)
🚨After the election, Patrick Byrne implicates himself, America Project, Mike Flynn, Donald Trump, Elon Musk and others in a project to “stop their go fast switch” with the “hand of God.”
Byrne says he was funder & Mike Flynn was architect of a plan to surveil & obtain “a map of their cheating… and bring their knowledge to tightening up the election system.”
Tina Peters, who breached the Colorado voting system software was deeply connected to the America Project, which is currently advocating for her release from prison. There were breaches in several other swing states. They had the software.
I note that Byrne says the “go fast switch” would have been executed around “6PM” which is about when the Russian bomb threats were called in.
This is part of a disturbing pattern of only oligarchy, others close to this group, and Polymarket, having a strangely confident attitude that this would be a landslide. As Byrne notes, as a result of the unimaginable final vote totals, “dissent was crushed” because Trump has a “mandate” and won both the popular vote and the electoral vote more than Biden won over him.
All of this is consistent with @Spoonamore’s investigation into potential tabulator hacks.
Something’s wrong here and it needs to be taken seriously.
@PamKeithFL@MalcolmNance Trump is going to let Netanyahu level Gaza. All those saying Biden was committing genocide, they will see soon what a true genocide is and Trump hotels being built in Gaza on beach front property soon after its done.
fun task of trying to convince Trump and Bibi not to entirely erase Palestinians from the Levant.
I wish them luck, but they clearly no longer need my help with that. ✌🏽
I take note of this fact:
The Jewish community voted 86% for Kamala.
More than 50% of Muslims voted for Stein or Trump.
Which tells me something very profound:
The Jewish community understands that THEIR issue is not the ONLY issue.
And now the Muslim community gets the
BREAKING: President Biden has announced another round of judicial nominees, bringing his total number of judges nominated to 261.
Get them confirmed before January.
The U.S. CANNOT pull out of NATO.
I’m all for Elon Musk’s commitment to free speech, but suggesting how other countries should govern themselves—and even hinting at weakening our alliances if they don’t comply—is downright misguided. Our allies elect their own leaders to represent their interests, and America has no place dictating their laws or policies. That’s a call for their citizens alone, not for us, and certainly not for JD Vance or Donald Trump.
If Trump were to withdraw from NATO, let’s be honest: the biggest winner here would be Russia. Any other rationale is just a smokescreen for giving Putin precisely what he wants.
I revere this country. The institutions. The Presidency. I want our nation to succeed.
But I’m not naive.
Donald Trump has a playbook. They wrote it out for us. 922 pages. With 270 specific points he has publicly supported.
If our American values and freedoms are attacked, we will not stand idly by.
Allow me to address the elephant in the room: Trump’s current silence is a thousand times stranger than his silence after the alleged assassination attempt. — Something is brewing.
THIS IS F-CKING SCARY:
Trump's lawyer Mike Davis just threatened to have NY AG Letitia James imprisoned for continuing her fight to hold Trump accountable for the 34 felony counts he’s was convicted of.
"I dare you to try to continue your lawfare against President Trump... listen here, sweetheart, we're not messing around this time and we will put your fatass in prison for conspiracy against rights."
It’s hard for me to explain the depth of sadness I feel about Jack Smith moving to vacate the remaining schedule in the DC case. All that work. All those filings. And Donald gets to just walk away from accountability. It’s profoundly depressing for those of us who seek justice.
