It’s International Literacy Day!
Can we please get CEO-Hat-Snatch levels of outrage over the fact that books have been snatched from classrooms and replaced with passages?
And reviewers and states and districts are buying it?
Please RT if you agree that this is the more outrageous story. It certainly affects millions more children.
@AOSmithHotWater I’ve had trouble with a HWH since August. Keep being told to replace parts with no remedy after several trips and parts #CanYouHelpMe??
I’ve been learning about trauma- informed practices for the last 5 yrs. But not once, in my PD,has anyone discussed the trauma Ss endure when they can’t read. Is it possible that schools are causing trauma by not teaching Ss how to read? Steven Dykstra thinks so. @literacypodcast
@SecCardona The majority of US elementary schools use one of the lowest-rated reading curricula in America.

I have never once seen you talk about that.
Why not?
We need problem-solving, not platitudes, in K-12.
@MrEOrtizJr I’ve been following you for some time, and I appreciate your impact beyond the educators in your district. I look forward to seeing your contributions at AIM Institute.
@MrEOrtizJr @ReadingShanahan As a parent who watched their child become a shell of themselves and spent tens of thousands of dollars for FAPE, it is a challenge to show grace. Fortunately, my son received the appropriate remediation, but I lose sleep for the children not so fortunate.
@stateaidguy Here is another article about the educational malpractice perpetrated on millions of children. Calkin’s being “imperfect” has led to so many families suffering. Millions wasted on materials, training, and fireside chats. Parents read the research. What took her so long? #DDNJ
Thursday’s announcement represents a significant victory for parents — some of whom wept at the press conference — who have long been frustrated with the city’s inability to educate many struggling readers. https://t.co/WifbREPvad
