Here's Bea Arthur making her big-screen debut as an (uncredited!) army officer in 1959's That Kind of Woman. She only has two lines, one at the start and the other at the end of a scene, but her delivery could not be more Dorothy.
You should definitely move out of New York if you can't appreciate the magic and whimsy of a clutch of small rats peeking out of a sewer grate to see what's happening, like nosy neighbors leaning out of windows when a fight is happening on the street below
