Kimberley SAR has recently prepared our Swift Water rescue equipment and would like to remind everyone the melting snow and rain can cause water levels to rise suddenly without warning. A reminder to pack all your safety equipment and extra clothing. In case of emergency call 911

A persistent weak layer in the North Rockies has resulted in two recent fatalities. This layer is also the suspected cause of a near-miss incident in the South Rockies. 2/3
Kimberley SAR responded late yesterday afternoon to an avalanche in the Summer Lake area involving a buried individual. Teams were transported by helicopter and moved one subject to a waiting ambulance.

Restrictions have limited our face to face practices, so like many other organizations we have been meeting virtually to review procedures in order to stay sharp and on our game when responding to calls.
The dangers are real! Here in Kimberley there are mountains in every direction. You may be in an avalanche path and not even know it. Our beloved Nature Park has avalanche hazards you may not be aware of.
There’s plenty of resources avail to get trained & stay safe, & Ms. Riches, who’s been involved in promoting these programs for 16 yrs, sees a growing appetite for knowledge this yr.
