Our final visit of the day was to Thiepval to commemorate old Kimboltonian, Philip Stubbs, and see the memorial to the 72,000 missing. All gathered for a moving service, including a skilled playing of the Last Post from 3rd Fm pupil, Tom.

Day Two of the Battlefields trip.
We are all a bit tired, but pupils were beautifully behaved and respectful during our solemn visit to the Vimy Ridge Canadian War Memorial.

Next stop: Beaumont Hamel to learn about the Battle of the Somme and to hear about Miss Morrell’s grandfather, one of the young men sent in to bury the bodies.

Second visit of the day: Tyne Cot Cemetery. It’s a bit rainy, but the pupils are still keen to explore and ask questions.
