Our ancestors were neither fools to be dismissed nor gods to be worshipped. Tradition is an inheritance that demands discernment. We must have the courage to preserve its wisdom, confront its injustices, and reform what no longer serves us. A generation that abandons its roots loses its identity, but one that refuses to question its inheritance risks passing oppression to its children in the name of culture. Honour the ancestors, but do not imprison the descendants.
I am thrilled to share that I have been selected as one of the Top 5 @CNN Heroes of 2026 out of thousands of nominations worldwide.
When I became Uganda's first #wildlife veterinarian, I never imagined that caring for mountain gorillas would lead to a movement linking public health, conservation and sustainable livelihoods. Through @CTPHuganda we've seen that when communities thrive, gorillas thrive. Our work with over 10,000 households has helped the Bwindi gorilla population grow by over 50%.
This recognition shines a light on Uganda and on the One Health approach for the whole world. The final winner is decided by your vote. I humbly ask for your support:
Vote here: https://t.co/PndBpGC7Xq
Voting is open now until November 29, 2026. 10 votes per day. Together, we can show that the world cares about gorillas and people co-existing. #CNNHeroes2026 #CNN #walkingWithGorillas #OneHealth @LillyAjarova
If the students had chosen to use a polite language, no one would have given attention to what they said. Society has always promoted and praised big women and men who use abusive language through giving them awards, hosting them on big Tvs and Radios, promoting their songs and others have even got big offices like ministers and MPs. Remember, it's the same society where these children also live. Therefore, before you blame them, first question how and where did they get to learn such a language.
However, let's not forget the message they were trying to carry. I have seen the big dogs in this game trying to defend themselves by replying to only the to the choice of words used but not the message the students were carrying. With due respect, the young ones where saying that it's time up for some of you, 30years on radio "okyakolaki" that you dnt do in the 90s?
Dnt make children curse education with a saying that "even if you study , you won't get where to work from", Eeeh. Leave the stage and give a chance to others.
And the message isn't going to only us in the media fraternity, it cuts across. Teachers, Politicians, leaders, lawyers, footballers etc. Let us learn when to hang our boots bananageeeeee.

But why do you people like Uganda a lot? Please deal with your problems in peace, stop involving our country in all you struggles. We have enough problems on this side
