Let me say this:
I was part of the code blue team during Covid.
One day we had seven codes, no attending or resident was available. The respiratory therapist and I kept a patient alive in a hallway with limited resources. That patient survived.
I ended up giving a mass transfusion to another patient and the ICU charge nurse came to help. We kept that man alive until the surgery team became available.
I was called to assess a guy who was rapidly decomensating. There were no beds available, only regular nasal cannula and a non rebreather mask. I went to another rapid response just to get a code blue notification. It was the patient on the non-rebreather mask. We intubated him in the hallway and I stayed with him until a bed was made available for him six hours later. I got home at 11 pm and had to be back at work the next morning at 7am. I WAS EXHAUSTED. So, miss me with the BS.
