Today we celebrated Winter Solstice. The longest night gave us time to reflect on the past year and celebrate a time of renewal! Ayyy kindergarten students for raising your voices in song and celebration! #CBEIndigenousEd
We appreciate the place we live, learn and play on/from. We worked collaboratively to create a visual representation of our land acknowledgement. We are grateful to the Blackfoot people who are stewards of this land and will continue to show respect and love to Na’a. 🩵💚💛
O’ki Grandmother Moon!
We are learning that on Blackfoot Terrirory, this full moon is iitaoi’tsstoyi and is teaching us to be aware for “When the cold weather arrives”! We are ready to look for signs of colder weather in the next few days. Frost, our breath and more!
What a glorious invitation to play outside! Ayyy Father Sky for this “glistening”, “shimmering”, “diamondy”, “shinny”, “frosty” gift! #unintentionalvocabularylearning
Taanishi! We have learned so much about the Métis culture! Dot art, jigging (just start that fiddle and we can’t wait to show our skills), weaving and bannock making! It’s such a special time to learn so much about a new culture, traditions, joy and kindness. Maarsii 🩵🤍
“We would also learn strength and resilience, and we would learn to find ourselves and each other again. We cannot go back. We must extract…a new collective worldview and tune into that together. You and I must be reconciled. Then it can cascade outward.”
~Chief Robert Joseph
This week was filled with meaningful conversations and important learning. Our kindergarten students added their rock to our school’s Reconciliation Rock garden and have brought home an invitation to join the community in honouring Orange Shirt Day Saturday.
We have been learning Blackfoot words as we are on Blackfoot Land. Students are looking forward to sharing the words they learned. Natoosi is Blackfoot for sun and Kokomikisomm is Blackfoot for moon! #landbasedlearning
“It’s mine! It’s my little circle of life. It’s so beautiful. I love it.”
The creation of Circles of Self makes each little spirit more aware of their holistic nature and wellbeing. Reflection and renewal brings life to the artifact, so deeply connected to who they are.
The way they come to the space with eagerness, curiosity, familiarity, and respect. The greetings to plant relatives in the language of the land. The comfort demonstrated in connection and spirit. Mornings with Na’a and these little learners are everything.

“On our way to find Ki’piaapi” after listening to the Blackfoot oral story of an important sign of spring, we had to get onto the land and find her.
What a special gift to find her!
What a wonderful day to celebrate Na’a! She gives us so much and appreciates the reciprocal relationship of us giving back to her.
Ask your child what they are grateful to Na’a for!
